Examples of the Post’s new conversations experience.

Conversations onboarding

The Washington Post launched a new conversations experience. This upgrade created a more intentional space for users to comment and engage in meaningful discussions about stories.

Challenge

How might we highlight the newest and best parts of the conversations experience for users?

Team

  • Animator and Design Lead (Me, Holly Braford!)

  • Content Designer

  • Conversations Experience Designer

  • Engineer

  • Product Manager

Approach

We created an onboarding carousel to introduce users to new features and empower them to engage. I created clear visuals that reflected the new conversation experience.

Discovery

We showed users how to enter the experience.

Engagement

We highlighted the new prompt feature for users with this static image.

Summarize

We showed the new discovery carousel that has an ai summary of comments and shows comments with the most sentiment reactions.

Reactions

We highlighted our new word reactions.

Results

The onboarding carousel launched alongside the reimagined commenting experience. Early qualitative feedback indicated that users appreciated the clear design, though it is too early to measure long-term engagement metrics.
